About
I’m pretty much interested in whatever makes novel bleeps and swooshy noises. I’ve always had a real yearning to make music, but it took me a long time to find my approach to it.
I’ve been using Reason since its initial release, since I had been so enamored of Rebirth before that. It’s still my bread and butter. I got into trackers for a little spell before that. I’ve used Cubase for several years, though now I use Ableton Live as a VST and Rewire host, among other things. VST instruments and effects are a big part of my process, too.
These days I’m trying to pursue my long-time fascination with algorithmic music, especially as source material for original compositions. I’m experimenting with Pure Data, SuperCollider, and original VST plugins.
My taste in music is broad, with special places in my heart for drum & bass, house, IDM, synthpop, hip-hop, and indie rock. I listen to pretty much anything that moves. I don’t necessarily write any or all of these types of music; I just write what comes to me.
I’m a web & database developer by trade, located in Austin, Texas. I’ll also be posting about my adventures in PHP, Ruby, relational databases, Ajax, JSON, Flash, SOAP, CSS, Greasemonkey, and Firefox extensions. I’ll keep the vacuous buzzwords, such as “Web 2.0″ and “disruptive technology”, to a minimum. I tend to save my “golly geeper whiz!” moments for musical and spiritual experiences.
I’ve also studied philosophy (especially metaphysics, epistemology, and existentialism). I sometimes work as an election volunteer. I have a ton of other hobbies, including 3D graphics, aquarium-keeping, car repair, guns, psychology, intellectual property & constitutional law, video games, rollerskating, fishing, cooking, writing, and politics.
